Deliverance

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

A dream sometimes is a tangible reality as reality is sometimes a dream.

Tuesday, April 27, 2004

I dreamt a dream of a fearful darkness last night,

Filled with fretful visions of lost children grasping…

and clawing for a thinning, ever dimming shaft of light

off in the distance, I could see a city silhouetted against a blood red sky

And I could feel the thunder from beneath my feet, as foul spirits began to cry.

Fear soon began to overwhelm me for I walked this mile alone

And I could feel the sudden weight that lay upon me like a millstone.

The weight of knowing… the weight of an impending doomsday,

Its was the weighty revelation that one third of the trinity had gone away.

All that was left, was man, and he to his own device, nothing good…nothing right.

I could smell the smoke from the city as it burned and concluded that man did not learn.

I also heard the cries of an untold number of souls, as they tried to hide, from the burning coals.

I turned to run from this city in ruin and came face to face with a beast carrying a golden urn.

He stood atop a heap of broken and naked bodies, their faces contorted with the agony of ages.

He smiled a sly and frothy grin, and extended forth his hand.

He asked me if I were ready to die, and told me not to fear, for I already had in my mind.

I turned again to the city in ruins and saw the twelve tribes of Israel represented by these urns.

And standing atop each urn, were seven foul spirits from which I was to learn.

I fell to my knees and called out into the ever darkening sky, I sought relief, I begged to die.

But death this day was not my friend, for I was chosen to witness the end.

I awoke from this in a frightful state, and realized it was but a dream and it was not too late.

This vision/dream so rocked my mind, it gave me pause to review this life of mine.

With conclusions now made, my souls deliverance must take place.

Beyond imagination - a great experience. If you have some time please accept one of my favoriates.
"This thing named me,
And there is work to do here
Is why I want to believe
And just that. I must challenge the way, however, beware
Any more,
and to watch out
For being here, for I cannot stop,
as I could
As my time in a weak soul
Can gasp the void of perpetually."
