In the silence of a winding and twisting road to nowhere…
I drove....
I drove with solitude, for it was my only companion,
and the laughing moon my lonely guide.
It was here, that I felt relief now from life’s heavy load.
For it was on this night that I, in my remorse took flight.
Fleeing from the screaming shadows,
That betrayed all that was hallowed.
Softly now I ran upon the night wind,
Seeking solace from scarred memories within.
Those of old haunts from a segregated past,
built on matchstick dreams not meant to last.
Left now am I in the silence of my darkness,
Driving alone on a winding and twisting road,
A road from here,
a road to there…
a road to nowhere.
So it shall be, that I acquiesce to the night
And surrender all to serenities latent call.
For my matchstick dreams
Never were what they seemed.
For all that remains, is the laughing moon and I
Who together on winding and twisting roads,
learned that in order to live, one must truly learn to die.
