"Who will stop the rain...coming down"?

Frozen Memories

Memories of my mind,

Remain frozen in time,

For halting dreams, back then

Had no beginning, and knew not an end.

For childhood passions

Gave birth to life’s lessons

As the memories of my mind,

remained frozen in time.

For much too soon,

Creeks and streams

And vines on which to swing,

were replaced by hot burning jungles and roaring machines.

Though we were still just children back then,

We were being forced by fate to become grown men

Yielding now to the blinding lights…

half day skirmishes and never ending nights.

Oh, lessons learned…

New memories burned,

And little children among the dead,

For unto this ritual horror was my soul fed.

Oh cruel was this fate upon monsoons rise,

All whilst frozen memories slowly die.

Oh time,

Oh dreams,

Lost forever

in the jungles steam.

Yeah though… this life continues on,

And sometimes still with its frozen memories,

Of  being point man on the next recon.

Some folks are born to wave the flag,
Ooh, they're red, white and blue.
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief",
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord,

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no,
Yeah!

Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh.
But when the taxman comes to the door,
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes,

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no.

Some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord,
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer More! more! more! yoh,

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, one.
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no no no,
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate son, no no no,

Al what an awesome combination, you and CCR. At first it took me aback, the poem I mean, then I realized what it was, another memory of 'Nam defrosted and hopefully melted away...Find Peace, Ed & Rufuz
