At The End Of rhyme

How does on begin,

When one knows it must,

if only for awhile come to an end.

For I have come to this crossing of time,

where I must put aside my words of rhyme.

For there are deadlines to be met,

And if I must go, it shall be in regret.

For I failed in my weakness to see,

How I could possibly complete my next art entry.

With the show date looming just around the bend,

I have yet to even gather my brushes, and paints…

and I hardly even know where I should begin.

I know that my canvas will be a 24X48,

And I have my thumbnail from which to translate.

Oh but what vexes me…is how I love to just sit and write,

And then read everyone’s wonderful poetry well into the night.

However I realize, that if I am to make this show,

I will have to make choices on what to let go.

It cannot be my job you see,

For it is what allows me to eat.

So I guess it will be my poetry that gets the axe,

At least until my painting finds it tracks.

Yet, even in this,

I will make the time to read the Den,

For this is just too much to miss.

So I wish to say thank you to you all,

And tell you that this past year has been a ball,

I am hoping for a quick return

That more mysteries I may discern.

And if I were to hit a painters block,

Then to my words I will come again,

Lest I forget what I wish to say.

So for now my friends…

Arrivederci… Adiós… Auf Wiedersehen…and Au revoir

May all your writings from the pages soar.

this is so great!!! I'm a totally amateur artist, but I'm determined to keep up the practice, and I have this same problem - reading poetry into the night. I'll miss your presence 'round here. Happy painting, Dawn

Al, the self comes first, you have to do what you have to do to survive, if painting is your first love and making such beautiful words your second, you HAVE to go with the first, gotta pay those bills...unfortunately!

You WILL be SORELY missed by this writer & your friend as I look forward daily to some tidbit of your writing to perk up my day, no matter what the way, be it in sorrow or humor, you are a writer of poetry like no other...

Peace dear friend and stop back now and again, Ed & Rufuz

(ps: couldn't you just send in a blank picture, telling them to just make up their own mind pictures...LOL?)

Allen, we'll miss your incredible writes. Just knowing you won't be around we'll cast a shadow in the den. We'll await your return to us, with much anticipation.
Good luck my friend with your painting, and may the strokes be plentiful.

well, starving poets who are starving artists just do what they gotta do, my brotha. Set an alarm, paint those creations, make that money, and write about it later :-)

blessin's, and all the best in the contest,

J Allen you will be missed! I know it won't be for long
since you are as much a poet as you are a painter;-)
That's a great sized canvas all the best with it!
