Together Forever And A Day:

Odd it is as time progresses in its leaps and bounds

How conversation changes not only in tone…but also in sound.

For it was just yesterday

That strange and disturbing word came my way.

Filled with thoughts that my mind would reject

Complete with words I would just as soon forget.

However though it was not to be this way,

For it was over dinner that I heard my wife say.

"Allen, oh Allen, I love you so,

and this I confess, for I want you to know"

"I love you too" I heard myself say,

yet still she spoke on,

this time in a more hushed tone.

"Allen…if it be my fate,

and God decides to take me ahead of you,

I want you to know"….

"Hush now" I piped in

"I will have none of that",

and that is a fact."

But this did not stop her from finishing her song,

As she continued amidst my hearts weary groan.

"Allen, hear me out and listen well,

for if I leave first… on me…you should not dwell.

I want you to be happy, I want you to move on,

And I want you to find another,

Who will love you as I love you…so please, be strong.

I want someone who will also pray for you…

Long and hard, and in earnest as I do.

For you see my love…it is my love that can allow such as this,

Though in thought it is hard, in my heart, it is love in it fullness".

Choking back tears, and feeling unbelievable pain,

I looked at her, and told her it would not be this way.

For it we who shall take wing into the night,

It is I, who unto God that hath my plea,

That you my darling…from my side never leave.

For it is you that does not understand,

That without you, there is no other,

No sister…no brother

Without you, there is nothing

No nothing,

that could ever remove me

from the tender touch of your hand.

For I am to you, as you are to me,

The very breath of life,

the love that last eternally.

So now that you,

And now that I

Have both had our say.

And now that we fully understand

That you my love are in me,

And I, in you,

And that one cannot part,

And the other stay.

For we are one in mind

And we are one in heart.

Together forever

and a day.

A good friend of mine lost his wife to a horrible accident last night, even as my wife and I had this conversation. I dedicate this poem to them. My prayers go out in their fullest, and I most humbly solicit your prayers from you…for them.
