Snails Don’t Sing

Little nothings sailed and flailed in the shimmering air,

whilst below, the smiling begonias

in their folly danced without a care.

Causing the merry meadows

To once again laugh.

Oh how they did run

To and fro

To hill and dale

A little fast, at first

Then a little slow…

Dancing away,

Oh dance did they

till the evening was done.

Yeah though…and much to my surprise

as I watched all this from the secret place in my mind,

I bore witness to many strange things,

Such as the dancing begonias

and snails that could sing.

For they were babbling forth

in the valley below

Chasing a silent brook,

across cotton candy snow.

All Whilst three blind men

Sat atop a golden tree,

Reading and writing

their fiery poetry.

Yeah though…

I all too soon began to sigh

When I finally realized,

That this was all just some weird dream

That in reality, begonias don’t dance

And snails don’t sing.

don't be surpised, Al ... through a poet's eyes everything is possible and real, for life is magnified, to be heard and seen, to be felt and deciphered by the creative will of our hearts and minds ...

the mood and atmosphere are exceptional in this one ...

J Allen, I'm enchanted! How utterly wondrous is this poem.
A delight that takes us to the realms of whimsy, to beguile
our senses! I love it, such a welcome escape from daily turmoil
Thank you!Love, Eileen

I beg to differ, when I am on the beach I hear singing from under the sand, has to be the snails or maybe a crab or two chiming in...as for begonias, I know little of dancing flowers, but I have heard that roses do a mean two step...;) ED & Rufuz

Excellent, loved it, reminds me of a garden I used to have...the snails had they're own band, they were a bit too Death Metal though. Perhaps, thats why everybody reckons they can't sing lol.

Allen, I loved it! A bit out of your norm..which was what made it the perfect retreat.
This one I'm saving..when I'm feeling lost and down..I too can chase that silent brook.
Excellent.
