Oh Where Did Time Go?

Oh Where Did Time Go?

He walked alone in silence down the sidewalk of his forgotten time,

twitching and snarling at all, as life sadly passed him by.

His hair hung shoulder length, all oily and unkempt.

His shoes that covered his feet would clip clop along the street

from his cripples limp.

Black shadows of the evening now in hoi polloi chased him along his way,

rendering him ashamed…confused and unable to pray.

For he knew that this walk would be his last,

As bore witness to his final sunset, as it approached wickedly, fast.

Time had tricked and mistreated this kind gentle man,

For It had once held out the torch of hope

And with malice…tore it savagely from his hand.

Oh why had life been so cruel,

And why most of all…had he lived the life of the fool.

For he had once long… long ago believed,

That life was fair…just… and not preconceived.

Yet the fool he was…to hearken to such a lie,

All whilst trusting in goodness, and hope… just to help him get by.

He was once well known and respected in name,

But now…he, is just like a thousand others,

That wanders the sidewalks of forgotten time.

Oh God…what a shame.

Oh God…

Where went the time?

Yes we often do wonder where the time went. Hopefully this is when most find a new purpose.

This is a question that I find we all ask given enough time. A most interesting post.

This really brings us face to face with our own mortality. That, frankly, scares the pee outta me. *Oh Where Did the Time Go?* certainly conveys the passage of time and our confusion when we eventually "wake up" and wonder who we are and how did we get here. Scary stuff.

This should wake up those who get lost in the hourglass of time unaware of how quickly the sand runs out...Superb poem Allen!

Beautiful write about a sad situation. This poem is a good reminder to show kindness to the downtrodden.

Yes, Al, where did that time go...seems the older I get the more I think about a question almost the same as the thrust of this poem...twas a sad tale you put forth herein, Al...Find Peace, Ed & Rufuz

Time and illness prove how much alike we all are under the frills. Nice job.

A truly sad tale - and time truly can wreak havoc on us if we let it slip by.
