I Wept Even More Today

Contrasting are the emotions,

which sustain the conflicts within my mind.

For I see the tender happiness in a gentle smile,

I see the joy and laughter brought by those who strive to be kind.

Yet still, I see too many who walk a silent tear filled mile.

Thus, I weep daily in tears, mingled in both sadness and joy.

For I laugh with those who laugh and I cry for those who cry,

I only wish that joy I could bring to those so saddened in this life.

If I could but bring them near,

I would if I could, erase their fear,

For I share their pain

As I walk beside them in the pouring rain.

I can taste the bitter weed, on which they dine,

And I feel as if their burdens were indeed mine.

What more can the heart of man do?

What more can he of this life pay?

For I only wish in this life to see,

The whole of mankind be happy and free.

I wish, I pray,

Yet, still

I wept even more today.
