Secret Societies

Upon a crescent moon with hungry tiger eyes,

Comes now…comes now a secret storm

garnished with destructive and lamenting cries.

Hot, putrid and vile anger now fills the hearts of once gentle men,

as those of lesser stature are consumed from the black fury within.

Dark and secret societies of a sordid and sullen cast,

Have risen now, oh risen now as silent specters

from the smoldering ashes of yesterdays villainous past.

They come forth in the form of a maddening

with rage in their soulless eyes

they peer from alleyway and chapel hall,

Catching God's children unawares…

All unawares

To the mighty cities fall.

For many a great have erred in the coming of this way

Seeking their solace in blind truth,

forever searching for the peace of a better day.

Yet, truth and peace are senseless and cruel illusions,

which dull the minds of honest men.

For all are just mere reflections

Vague misaligned visages

of the naive in mind.

Yet forge on…forge on do we,

Oh helpless cripples

Cast down on a tormenting sea.

Lost now forever

Lost for eternity.

Quite powerful, J. Allen, and very sadly, too true these days.

That you address "God's children..." says something of import about the inspiration of this poem. I find it interesting how often today's "believers" choose to address the folly of nonbelievers when the Apostles spent very little time hurling down reprisals upon this world. It's understood that this world is judged and the reasons therefore, and so it's state isn't mentioned nearly as often as the the state of the Church. It's believers who struggle to maintain and fight the good fight; it's the one who's been lifted that is in danger of falling. Once you believe, you must guard yourself. If you have yet not believed, then that's the main block. Everything else is moot. Still isn't it funny how quickly the believer who shines light on the foolishness of the "called out" becomes the one considered out of line? And we over look His truth because it is so simple. Oh, somebody pray. ~~Nordette

This sheds lights and you know the writers stance immediately and I agree there have been some god men led down blindfolded paths in the name of righethousness. Scary to think that it is still alive today.

Al, this has some really catchy lines, especially the ones before the
"Catching God's children unawares…" line...it was as if it was rising to a crescendo then after that I sort of thought it got less intense...but I gotta tell ya, I liked this one enough so to re-read it several times before reviewing...usually one reading is enough for me to grasp the poets intent, but this gave me a bit more of a challenge and that I like a great deal...Keep Peace in your Heart, Ed & rufuz
