Leah's Response to my poem

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Below is the response from Leah, my wife on my poem written last night entitled "Alone"

Thursday, April 7, 2005

I complained that you did not hear me

Then I realized that neither do you see me.

For you to claim to be so alone, I conclude

That you must not feel me.

I'm still here trying to reach out to you,

As I see you adrift in that fly away somewhere

World that you continue to dwell in.

You seem to be listening to a message that

I cannot comprehend.

Messages that are spoken by voices that

No man should allow to enter in.

You refer to our love nest, our castle,

Our sanctuary, as a "once brighter home".

The love light in the foyer shines ever brighter than

at any time before.

So it is Your heart that has flipped the switch to

darkness, and your thoughts that won't allow

You to see,

The blessings that daily surround you,

And the joy and happiness that dance in glee.

You say that you are so alone. If that is true ,

And you indeed are alone, then where does that leave me??

I implore you to leave that prison

In that somewhere far away world of yours

For the bars are not made of metal you know

But of the imaginations of your mind.

Time does not last forever, and one day

Time will surely end. All we have is just

This one moment, and then eternity begins.

So step out of that cold dark cell of yours

Into the glowing warmth of my world.

Together let's look to the One who has

all the answers and all the solutions

To every problem. Let's allow our

Faith to arise from within, as we listen

For Him to speak to us

To guide us and to lead us,

For it is His Will that we should prosper

And be in good health, even as our souls prosper.

He says to cast down imaginations and

Take every thought into subjection to the

Knowledge of God.

Let's remember all His promises.

For they are true .

Come back to reality. Let's talk!

Allen, my immediate response is that you have an amazing gift there with you in the person of Leah, obviously a poet in her own right. I know how difficult those imaginings of the mind are to shake. All good things to the both of you,

a wonderful response but we need not forget how a poet can feel alone and yet surrounded by those he loves and those who love him ...
it just comes with the territory ...
