Forgotten Dreamer

My cracked and timeworn hands

Bleed profusely across the blank parchment of my life,

Therefore giving witness to the despair of my dismal and distant land.

For my failings and broken dreams are now left to bury their dead,

as the sun of yesterday and the moon of lost hope dances its truths in my head.

So…so close, was I yet infinitely so very far,

For I lay trapped in starry sequences bizarre.

Lost unto the depth of thoughts, which debase and betray all

As I… Oh I, the forgotten dreamer

continue my slide into the pit of disenchantment in which I am sure to fall.

For the time is late, and my days draw swiftly, so swiftly to their close,

As I ponder the perplexities of it all, in my simple verse and prose.

Yet, to me, it seems to be all of a lost cause and to no true avail,

For I succeed not, when in truth…I know I have failed.

Therefore, I ask in earnest of myself,

Of all the things I have pondered, of all that I have written,

What do I have…but these dusty memories, which lay bare upon my broken shelf?

Papers and papers filled of my written word,

All for naught, and all so silent in that much will go unheard.

Yet, I suppose it matters not, for in all, my dreams are vain,

As I lay waste, to my wanton hope and succumb to truth and its unerring pain.

I have fought the good fight, or at least that is what I think,

For when measured against it all, as time has truly shown,

My words are but dust, in that they shall soon be gone.

"starry sequences bizarre".... indeed they are, and who among us can make sense of our lives, really? but (listen very well, please) you only think you are a forgotten dreamer whose pages are for naught. I am only one, yet I am one whose mind and heart has been profoundly moved, changed even, by your words. And I will always remember that. Dawn

These words are more like gold than dust for the illumination they bring to a soul empowered by literary endeavor and spiritual sincerity. As sad as they are, these lines embrace one's heart with their courage and beauty.

Allen, this is so sad and emotional.
I can truly feel the emotions you are speaking
Your words from your heart and soul are worth every minute you took to write them. They are beautiful and will always be heard and felt help others too.
That's why you were given the unique talent you have for you your heart soul to live on and on &... on this earth.
Peace to You always my friend.

No slipping, get yourself some slip resistant soles on your shoes and hold back and fight the good fight...I refuse to read of you "slipping off" as it were...Ed & Rufuz

As Eileen so eloquently put it words are forever. If only one or two people read the words you wrote and it made them laugh, anger, think and yes even brought them sadness...then they are worth your time and effort. Also somethimes it is not what your poetry does for others as much as what it does for ourselves.

Oh no Allen! That's where you are wrong! To put it bluntly you may be dust, but your words will live on. Aren't we still reading the words of Jesus and all his followers, over 200o years later? Never consider yourself a failure, when you know the Almighty has graced you with your gift. This poem is another example of your superb talent! nuff said, my friend!Write on!

Love,
Eileen
