Chasing Shadows

I fall through the shadows of futility

Blind, groping yet always, and never hoping

For the darkness now fills this abused, elusive mind

As the uselessness of its inert feebleness

Dissolves effortlessly into the silent passages eclipsing time.

Therefore, I stand now alone in silent and broken humility

Shunned in every essence by the very moon, and stars.

Suffocating now am I…with All things around me collapsing,

Collapsing…crushing all …stealing the void from within minds afar.

Oh lost am I, within the days of this stony laughter

Trapped now forever in its dark confines

Trapped now in futility of this self made prisons hereafter.

For out of this darkness

And into the mist of the vermilion dawn

I see the red awakening of my final folly…

as I in reverent sadness view it alone.

For the darkness is with me…

even still in the light of this day.

For I continue my fall through these shadows

Chasing not the darkness, but reality away.

Therefore unto this silent man,

Who remains hidden beneath burdens wall,

Therefore unto this silent man…

It is unto this darkness, which remains his only call.

I have seen Rufuz chase his shadow when I put the flashlight on him in the dark, it is so funny, though I do not think this was meant in jest...Ed

Eileen and Sue expressed what I also fear. When I read your dark work, fear of your possibly being in that place haunt me to the point I am distracted from the work. I always have to read it a second time, not that I wouldn't anyway, but I HAVE to, because I was too distracted the first time to get it all.

Allen when you do dark poems, you bring me into the depths with you, so intense I feel haunted by your condition. Superb chilling write!

you utilize dark, heavy images quite effectively ... i would like to see the causation or reasoning behind the imagery to get a more vivid glimpse into the muse of darkness that falls upon you ...

A very dark write! :( You'll need to crawl out of that darkness.

Darkness can truly consume us, if we allow it to, J. Allen. A very powerful piece.
