Prepare Thy Way
He came unto me in the whisper of a dream.
He spoke of His eternal love for me.
He comforted me softly in my silent pain.
He told me most gentle,
And in the kindest of ways,
That preparation is in order
For the closing light of my days.
He told me that I should not fear,
He said that He would never leave
that He was always there… always near.
Yet, it is not the fear of dying which consumes me,
It is the thoughts of things, which will go unfinished.
The dreams to be which never were,
The knowing of not ever knowing
The disappointment, which comes
with the absence of fulfillment
So therefore, I asked of Him
in this sliver between the dark and the light,
If I may perchance see the effects
of my presence, on others in this my life.
It was then, with a majestic sweep of His hand,
That the time and space did part.
And I began to see what was…and what could have been.
I watched with sadness as the events of my life unfurled before me.
For everything, yes everything that I had said and done came rushing in.
I wept with shame over my remiss, and grieved at what I did see,
For after all, this was my life for what it really was
And not that of what it could or should be.
Too late it is I cried…too late to rectify my wrongs,
Too late to change all which was,
too late to amend, and begin anew.
Therefore, I softly sighed, whilst inwardly I cried,
And it was then that He said unto me…
Do not weep my child…do not weep,
For you see only what you did not do
And you grieve for that which you were unable to achieve.
For if you were to look deeper, and beyond your mortal realm,
You would then see the multitudes
That found guidance under your generous helm.
So, weep not, and tarry no more,
For you will be with me always on heavens golden shore.
So, prepare thy way for the soon approaching night
And take comfort in knowing,
That you are a child of the light.
