The Wind Blew, And The Sea Did Roar

He sat in silence on a cliff and looked out over the open sea.

And there, he dreamed of many a near and forgotten things.

Tears now as big as the sky cropped up in the corners of his eyes,

as he thought…oh as he thought of all the little things in between.

He recoiled from his muted silence and blasted unto the heavens

With a mighty shout…WHY…oh why Lord must it be this way?

Have I not been all that you have made this mortal of me to be?

Did I not do all that you said in praying for the sick and soon to be dead?

Therefore, why Lord must it be this way, why must you close this chapter in my life

and share with me this burden of my closing day?

The wind blew, and the sea did roar,

but nothing else but silence…nothing more.

He tried to move now, a bit closer to the edge

However, he felt nothing but the numbness in his legs.

He watched tearfully as the large sun kissed the sea,

And he mulled his fate, as he despaired his infirmity.

The prism of colors that once filled the sky,

Now became soft shades of gray, unto silky night.

Silver specs of light on the blanket of darkness began to appear,

Still he sat alone…listening…and praying for alleviation of his fear.

The wind still did blow,

and the sea continued to roar,

But he…could no longer see,

for he was this night no more.

This poem is DEEPLY moving, my friend. I agree with E T ..no one writes better than you about the struggles between man and God. You have that gift. Amazing poetry!

This is such a sad but deeply moving tale of aguish, hurt, sorrow and pain. The mans desparation for an answer screams out from your words. Well done and well written, on off your very best Allen.

This reminded me of that man that we saw sitting by the ocean that day. Remember? He sat alone, and then he started waving and waving at nothing there (that we could see) We could only imagine who he was waving to (in his mind's eye), or maybe just waving his last good bye to an ocean that his eyes will never see again. A world that he would leave behind (forever?) Anyway,...you know I love your writing. I love you (smile) Leah
