Temporal Whisper

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Sometimes we...I... get caught up in the emotion of things, never realizing the true magnitude of this quick and elusive thing we call life. I often see many people who tend think too highly of themselves therefore missing the one true purpose of our meager, unremarkable existence. We each have our own answers to this true purpose, true it is that they will vary with some being similar, and others being worlds apart. This is what makes each one of us unique, different...yet somehow...all the same.

Temporal Whisper

I am nothing but a vapor

upon this vast sea of eternity,

A scant and temporal whisper,

 a mere molecule of humanity.

For I stand before a colliding moon,

Tasting the providence of my mortality.

Ample waves of confusion pour over my delicate soul

Symbolic prisms of eons past soon take their toll.

I watch now as these colors of silence spill forth in double time

I acquiesce to their demeanor as they flood the pale areas my weary mind.

I provoke my still spirit to absorb the ancient moon's cast

I, realize that I am nothing more than those that were of centuries past.

Therefore as I stand raw and unabashed beneath this stealthy night

I think of myself, I think of others and humble down beneath the endless sky.

For I am nothing…no not anything,

Oh, nothing am I, but a scant and temporal whisper,

 The lisping vapor,

Which all too soon fades from sight.

Allen,
We are but a temporary spirit. And you've captured that here.
