The Last Christmas Day

A Little early? Maybe...

What would you do or say, if by chance this Christmas

Would be your last ever Christmas Day?

The Last Christmas Day

He got the news today that almost took his breath away.

And he asked to hear that lone call one more time,

Just to be sure that it was not a trick of the mind.

Alas though, he heard it true , and he heard it right,

That the dominion of darkness had won, and he’d lose his fight.

He shook his head bitterly in sullen and silent disbelief,

He grabbed his hat and coat, and walked slowly down the street.

He stopped at the corner of a bustling and busy thoroughfare

and leaned hard against the frigid, unforgiving December air.

It was there he stood unobserved for quite sometime, as he watched make believe Santa’s with fake whiskers stare cold and blankly at their empty pots of gold

and smirk rudely when a stranger would deposit only one thin dime.

He pondered the words that played over and over in his head,

He thought of his wife and children, and what would they do when he’s dead.

He looked to the heavens that poured down ice so cold,

and cried inwardly that of this life, he had nothing to show.

He began to sing the many songs of regret

he recalled places and times, that he’d as soon forget.

He wished now that he had done more to help his fellow man

He wished he had more time…he would change, and do all he can.

And just when he was about to turn and walk away,

he heard a tiny voice from below softly say.

“Mister, please don’t be sad, for in a few more hours, it will be Christmas Day,

and a  time for us all to rejoice and be glad.”

He looked down to whence the small voice did come

and he saw a tiny angel with eyes as big as the open sea.

She wore a dress that was brighter and whiter than the fallen snow

and the air around her had a soft, warm, and comforting glow.

“Mister she said, to him one more time,

its almost Christmas, a day most divine.”

With that said, she reached out her minute little hand,

and showed this day to him, a glimpse of the promised land.

Now he had heard as a child about this most wonderful place,

and even believed once that when his time come, it would be his to partake.

Yet that was many a year ago, when he was young, and his faith still bold.

A time when he sang songs of His love in his church choir,

a time when he truly believed in God and his wonder working power.

Yet, and sad to say…that was another time…another day.

For you see, he no longer believed, for death would soon be his master,

and to the cold dark ground would his body forever cleave.

It was then he heard the tiny angel once again speak,

as she told him to lift his eyes up to behold heavens coming treat.

As he did, what she did to him say,

he saw the snowflakes transform into angels and come his way.

Thousands upon thousand of angels all in white,

with a multitude of voices proclaiming the truth of Christmas night.

Overcome by his troubles, overwhelmed by its strife,

he fell onto his knees and filled his soul with the all holy light.

Now some may say this tale is nice, but hardly could it be true ,

but I am here to tell you that it is so, for I know what God can do.

So believe as you may…this man received a miracle on Christmas Day.

Merry Christmas, and blessings to you all.

We shoud always be grateful for small mercies from heaven Allen
Life is the most precious gift of them all....dispensed by our merciful Creator in abundance...
Hold on tightly to the Rose of Sharon...

Now that is a true Christmas miracle. We all endure, we all overcome, yet I think that sometimes.... it takes us a while to see the strength we hold within ourselves. Beautiful work and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

This is a powerful message. People hang on, withhold, think they're in control of their lives and don't want to give it over. They have no idea of the freedom we know and the changes God will make.

We are so fixed on being 'correct' in every aspect that we are eager to forget the importance of the season.
It's called CHRISTmas for a reason, and we'd be good to remember that.
Loved this inspiring write.

This story brings a lot of meaning to the question you posed at the start and does it so sensationally.
