The Winner Is…
One hundred and fifty six hopefuls dared but to dream a little dream.
They wrote their plays, polished their lines, sprinkled in hope,
and ironed out the rough edges around the seams.
The day had finally come for the entire city to see.
The all county arts festival was in full swing.
Props were over here and all actors over there,
the judges were in place, as the audience did stare.
Scripts were read, and selections at last were made.
One hundred and forty seven were rejected
and only nine remained.
Excitement and drama soon filled the large stage,
as script after script was acted out for life’s little game.
With the plays all done, and the actors bowing on cue,
It was to soon be revealed which six writers would lose.
Though there was little significance and no fortune to this short game,
There was a plaque and a small check to honor the three which remained.
All in all, for this of it I have to say,
Though this was my first attempt on stage, to which I had much fun,
I will again without doubt, write another play.
And even though first place I did not win,
Placing third was enough cause to bring to my face a merry little grin.

Hey...third place isn't anything to sneeze at. I know it isn't first, but it wasn't last by any means either.
Keep writing!
