Faded Memories

I watched from a distance as a hundred cameras did click on this golden shore.

With photographs being taken of old folks, little children, and lovers galore.

I watched in silence as these vacation memories did transpire and transform

Thus creating a lasting, loving tribute to this most special day and time so warm.

Celluloid and digital images with a hundreds of little smiling faces,

Celebrating their life’s moments by capturing its intricate traces.

I smiled at their antics, and I laughed at their poses, yet I wept softly inside,

For I know of memories and that in a future time, these memories will have died.

Gone will be the old ones with their sad but happy grins,

Gone are the lovers, and vanquished are the children dressed in blue

Nothing of their days remaining, except a dusty photo album or two.

Photographs that measure our days, pictures that detail our special time,

But when viewed by a future generations…

we will just be smiling strangers with odd clothes and questions in the futures mind.

I concur with Felix below completely, he always seems to have the most appropriate comment !
Our words must be relevant and instrumental to all that read us...
Very deep and philosophical words...
Take care my friend !

Oh my, how deeply moving this is, how well you have captured this feeling when we look at old photographs and wonder who these people were...outstanding poetry.

Well done my friend and I can see the time has already taken it's toll on the new generation forgetting the old. That is why it is up to us the writers to make sure are words are bold enough to capture their imaginations.

I love nostalgic pictures and I try to find the history behind many of them. This is a wonderful poetic piece you offered tonight. I'm the one who notices "Tybee Island" at the end and I just beam! Thanks for that memory too J. Allen.
