Broken Hinges Of Time

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

We spend a lifetime traveling many roads. Decisions both good and bad either lessen or further our cumbersome loads. Many obstacles, many broken dreams, too many intersections in this world of white wicket panels that hang shattered on the broken hinges of time.

Broken Hinges Of Time

White wooden gates hang precariously on shattered hinges of time.

Paths once crossed with roads hard traveled

Bring reason to the unreasonable memories

Held fast in the recesses of the lucid mind.

Days which were brought forth in pain,

Gave yet of lessons learned and results gained.

Dust now kicked from feet that sorely bleed,

Give proof of years on broken paths of selfish greed.

Two ways now splits the road,

with signs amiss as the coming night in its darkness grows.

White wooden gates now foil the way,

with life near spent in search of the open road paved.

This is a another gem Allen, and you have enough for a crown! Though we travel the rough road for a time those who earned crowns, always end up on the right road! Splendid work!

Such wise words, Allen. The only path there is.

Crossroads missed...wrong paths taken...messing up here and there...all are possible misses and near misses while growing. We get to the gatekeeper and when we don't measure up...we are sent packing. We have time to change all that and though the gate is unhinged we still can open it with the right directive. I admire your choice of words when conveying this wise message.

Great poetic imagery, Allen, provoking the reader to think...and perhaps, consider the path they have chosen. Ditto Lew, who said to talkt to the Gatekeeper, Jesus, who will make straight the Way, for you!

Really wonderful stuff here, Allen.

Beautifully written and full of questions. Those gates can be mended. Talk to the gatekeeper, Jesus Christ and the roads you have traversed will matter no more,
God Bless,
Lew

Seems this questioning poem has the ambiguity of looking behind as he attempts to cleave out a new and cleaner path toward salvation, or at least, rejuvenating the spirit. (Then again, I could be all wet.)
