Willows And Dreams

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Time seems to weigh heavy on my thoughts of late, since my job has taken so much of my every day. No time left to ponder the world of dreams, no time for anything but to sleep a little and work a lot…in fact Leah suggested that I put in a change of address form with the post office so that I could receive my mail at my new primary residence…(Work)…my apologies for not being around much.

Willows And Dreams

Willows cling to the eroded banks of old men's dreams
with winding memories collapsed on a desert stream.
The verdant fields of youth, once quilted, and plush
Stand lost now unto the coming pallor of silent hush.
Alone to this call come we, alone without fanfare into silent gray.
We whimper and moan as the wind lifts up the warm desert sand
and we cry out unto the hollow darkness created by solitary man.

Fissures form jags below on the banks of the old river bed,

And the willows which once held fast are now dying and dead.

Our time escapes gently on the frosty breath of passing days,

With our priorities changed to make room for the absence of shame.

Words not said begin to melt on the trappings of the forgotten heart,

and the worlds of yesterday and tomorrow widen and gradually part.

For it is on the morrow of old men’s dreams

that the once vibrant willow somehow clings.

Allen

John Wayne called it True Grit...and when we have that irrepressible quality, we can overcome all difficulties with verve and aplomb..

Excellent offering my friend..

Don't work too hard..
Work towards God..

Hi Allen: I take this was a birthday card to me. I am now officially 59.99 plush shipping and handling. And yes, getting forgetful. (Actually I'm 61) That last part about the old men's dreams? Painfully true.
God Bless,
Lew

Whether workin, for ourselves, to get by, or stashin for the future, or workin for Him, full time or part, Men, always find themselves working. It's part of our nature, and one of the hardest things for many of my friends who are now in a position to not have to work, is the WHAT do I do with all this time? I know you will always have the Lord's work, and that's really great, when you can ejjoy the fruits of your labor, and replace your work with His. That's what a lot of my poems are about of late. Complacency and the like are enemies of sharing our blessings. Great write, and miss hearin from ya. Art

Really like your ending, J.Allen, and I hope work eases up for you soon.

Sweet write my friend but Leah is right. Time runs out all too fast as your poem tends to suggest, I too once thought of my work as the be all until I wound up in a hospital bed strapped to a heart monitor with a doc holding a knive over me. We all must do what we must but we should be careful not to let time run out on us.

I like Leahs idea, it gave me a good chuckle...we are finally receiving here some rain, much needed, the grass can now again grow, just in time for winter...LOL! Think of all that money you are making, and if you can't spend it, I am sure Leah can find time to go shopping, if not, send it my way, Rufuz and I can always find time to shop...LOL, Ed & Rufuz (you have been sorely missed as well as worried about)

Greatly enjoyed this fluid and melancholy write that carries the readers gently down a stream of bittersweet hope and lasting vision.

Words not said are the sweet after taste of dessert still with morsels leftover. Go for it. You have time....after you settle down.
