But To Blink
If I were but to blink and kiss soft the final night,
Then with eyes wide open I would join the sparrows in flight.
High above and with clarity, far beyond this earthly realm
I would ascend without constraint, to one whit, the spirits overwhelm.
Oh to see now, far below and beyond this veil of transparent time
I would see go forth a solemn dirge for of when the darkness was mine.
I would see friends, family and others, who may just care.
I would see them gather together to comfort each other in prayer.
Then my favorite hymns would then be sung and passages from the bible read,
But I would hearken not, for the words coming forth
Are for only the mournful living, and not of the passing dead.
For there would be no one home in this vessel of earthly clay,
As I, in spirit would have taken the wings of a brighter day.
I would then find a greater truth that would to me be told,
And it would be in this eternal day that I would forever sing God’s praise.
I would sing of Beulah land my new and glorious home,
Oh Beulah land, a place without tears where one never grows old.
I would sing forever and a day, for it would be by a blink of the eye…
That I and my weary spirit is taught to truly fly.
