Poem Artwork

Jekyll Island, Georgia…Land Of Dreams

Has slept called upon me this dream?

Or am I truly lucid in the things I’ve seen?

For if this is but a dream, awake me not this day

And deliver unto me this eternal peace I pray.

For there is in abundance in all the things of dreams

As Jekyll Island has ushered in a new era of personal peace.

Gone and banished is the glitter that Tybee now adores,

Replaced with wildlife sanctuaries on these truly golden shores.

So shame on Tybee for selling out, and shame gluttonous man,

Shame on him in his quest for more,

as he in his greed destroys a wondrous land.

So here I sit on natures golden shore

I find myself praying that time stand still

And that Jekyll will always remain this way forevermore.

Peace and happiness to you all from Allen & Leah on our journey of light.

Beautiful write. I have been to Jekyll Island. Unfortunately it rained the whole time. I guess Dr. Jekyll sometimes HIDES the sun.
I'm glad you had better luck.

"For if this is but a dream, awake me not this day
And deliver unto me this eternal peace I pray."
I especially liked this line.
God Bless,
LEw

You pen the passion of those who don't give an inch in preserving our natural resources. This is excellent poetry with a purpose.
A native Georgian, I love the coastal island with undying loyalty, but our economy demands that some of us live in luxury and the changes to its natural state. You're right, let's be thankful for those islands and areas holding the line. I love each of them, and a lot in the middle, but then, that's how a self-made mountain man would view things, eh?

Wonderful write with a touch of sadness tempered by the yearning of the way things should be. I have a deep love for these scenarios of yours that play strongly on the imagination and the need for tranquility. Well done Allen.

I think you should move there, buy a marina or small motel or some campsites and enjoy your golden years while you still can...Ed

Clap...clap...clap!! Oh! How I do miss my home landscape, the smell of saline sprays; the moonbeams that shoot from the lighthouses...the Marshes of Glynn and Sidney Lanier; the booty of lost pirates was actually the land of their dreams there among the barrier islands. Shhhhhh J. Allen.
You and Leah keep the secret of Jekyll and Millionare's Row...it's OUR secret.

Beautifully rendered portrait of nature.

Love to you and Leah!
