This Day…This Night

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

Day seven into the journey of light, however the shadows begin to draw nigh, and my spirit within starts to sigh…its almost time for the journey to end. Therefore tonight, I feel much like the lone sprig of sea oat in the photograph I took last night just as the moon was coming light out over the Atlantic…Peace and Blessings to you all.

Poem Artwork

 This Day…This Night

I could spend the next hundred years right here,

on this very spot and by your side.

The next 100 years to be consumed by the marinas,

the ships, and the gentle lift of the oceans tide.

Yet I suppose what you say of me is so very true ,

for in that of this day I do so grieve.

Oh, do you not see my love,

for it is of all this that we must soon and regretfully leave.

Yet, do try and please understand,

that I only long to this my simple dream,

that we, in infinite abundance capture of this

to what of our small days remain.

For in this I pray that our time my sweets,

be as they are this soft and tender day.

When I look into your eyes of blue; I see the same dreams,

Dreams which bleed from my heart.

Dreams that pour from a gapping and open wound

pouring through the reeds of my mind

which is likened unto the salt marshes of Glynn

of which my soul will not ever part.

For darling, I can plainly see,

that your desire and mine are one in the same,

and that we, through some miracle

forever in this land of enchantment remain.

You will leave the ocean but the rythmic sound of the tide will sing in your ears as long as you listen. Close your eyes and you are right there still.
God Bless,
Lew
