The Lonely Man And....

Lonely man sleeping in the pouring rain,

A life unfulfilled, a soul convulsing in pain.

Against walls of brick and mortar and of rigid steel,

He cries between the crevices of what is and isn’t real.

Blinking signs shouting Jesus dance on streets one and two.

One is red; two are blue and upon the rain soaked streets,

They carry the hope of something that lives in me and you.

Strangers loll and stroll down and out lonely mans way,

Pink ladies of the night stand stark and curse the falling rain.

Preacher man walks straight and narrow of these streets of red and blue.

He carries a worn and tattered bible from which shares the good news.

Lonely man watches now as preacher man calls out his name,

He recoils further into the shadows, not of fear, but shame.

Preacher man shouts, the pink ladies laugh and walk away.

The preacher man shouts again and in the spirit begins to pray.

Passer byes wearing slickers stop oh curious and stare.

Preacher man keeps praying as the devil takes his dare.

The wind screams furious down the streets up and over the wall.

Yet preacher man keeps preaching as lonely man heeds his call.

Blinking neon Jesus dances on the streets in time,

Mission bells start ringing, sounding out Jesus is mine.

The devil snarls and throws all caution to the wind,

However as always he loses to preacher man again.

The rain has stopped and the wind has ceased to blow,

Lonely man now walks with Jesus on streets made of gold.

Twice a day I witness the lonely siyls sitting under the over pass of I-75. Now there are women. I noticed a family, mother, father and two young ones coming from the Salvation Army. The paper wrote a storu about them visiting here so the mother could get cancer treatment. They would sit in the park after her treatments and wait until they could go back to eat and sleep at the Salvation Army. The article got them attention and now they are being cared for here. How many million others are out there? Thank you for writing this plea. God bless you.
Love,
Susan

Love to see the devil lose. Love to see love abide, love your poem.
