Poem Artwork

Pity The Children

Pity the children

Which stand alone one by one

Silhouettes against the sky

Listless and grey.

Weep not for those gone

But morn the tears of sorrow

For those little ones

Who have lost their way.

Once loved, once held

But now by neglect

Given over to suffrage

Of a private hell.

Laughter and dreams

Once dominated their lives

Childish innocence

Their countenance held.

The face of sorrow they now wear

As the listless grey

Turns its coat

To darkness, penetrating black

Hearken now unto this call

Let not your duty fall

Save our children from this fate

Teach them in the ways of right before its too late.

For our responsibility never ends

As by and through our teachings

It will be plain to see

It is we, the parents

Which hold the key

Therefore lead in the way that is straight

Avoid the opening of hell's swinging gate.

Teach them of word tried and true

That they of heavenly matters choose

For wide is the road which leads to perdition

And easy is it now in which to stray.
