Lone Man Praying

Cool shallow rivers beneath broken trees.

Collapsing wills in dying fortitude.

Man of malevolent mind wrought in sadness.

To whit folding hands rest on bended knee.

Hurt now sees hearts ripe in fear.

Curiosity seekers gather.

Lone man prays with mission unfulfilled.

Understanding hence lost unto need.

Melding light now forms chartreuse hues.

Green cast to a retreating yellow.

Crowds murmur with unbelief.

Lone man praying leaves.

The visual imagery here is stunning! I remember so well a time in my life when I was very much like this man you have portrayed so beautifully. Thank goodness an angel saw me, came down, took my hand and restored something in me I thought was dead -the capacity to love without limitation. Great piece Allen!

The image of that praying man lingers long after the last line of the verse is read and strikes a chord of wonder at his own magic faith.
