The Chaste Man

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

The battle lines are now drawn. This heart though chaste becomes tarnished from bad seeds once long ago sown. Help cries the man as he and he alone swings two inches above the desert sand….weeping now for prayers said too late. Weeping for what is now at hand.

The Chaste Man

Silver bullets of chaste hearts claim.

Pathways fraught of darkness stain.

Crystal rivers flow on days end unimpeded.

Gallows rise one by one symbolic of life cheated.

Endurance half mustered by the promise of a better day.

Obstacles of misery challenge structured steps along the way.

Spirits last clinging hope dances violently on hang man rope.

Life relinquished to gauderies way unable to grasp; to cope.

Masked man stands now on a platform bare.

Trap door loosed; crowds gather in morbid stare.

Murmurs shuttle from their lips to their blackened hearts.

Genteel is the soul from the chaste man as it departs.

Better to spend ones life in prison with no parole than to have a hang mans rope end your life.
