Supplications Of Eight

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

The last two weeks has found me less than whole. My foot started swelling on vacation down at Tybee Island and has now become almost impossible to walk on. I went to the doctor upon our return and was sent to a vascular surgeon to see if there is an underlying reason for the swelling. The swelling is confined to the pad beneath the toes and is very painful. We are hoping and praying that this has nothing to do with circulation or the lack thereof, but just a bruise of some type. We will have the X-rays back tomorrow. For those of you, who pray, I am asking for prayer. Please be diligent in this prayer request…

I wrote the above paragraph so as to lead into my poem with some explanation. I hope it is not too much in that it takes away from the body of the poem… It all starts with….

Every Tuesday night my mother-in-law holds a bible study in her home. I attended that bible study this week and it was from this bible study that the following voice came forth in written verse.

Supplications Of Eight

The lights in the room were dim and the clock on the mantel ticked in time.

Eight precious ladies sat in a tight circle preaching Jesus from heart and mind.

I sat in silence and listened as they read the scripture about how Jesus is the way.

I bowed my head in humility as they gathered around me and began to pray.

Supplications rose toward the heavens as eight tiny voices in prayer did unite.

They anointed me with oil and with hearts sincere laid on me of their hands.

They touched not of fleshes infirmity, but of the very throne of God this night.

I felt the power and love of God surge through this body; I felt presence of God on this weak and humble man.

I thought, though I walk in a valley of darkness; my sight is fixed upon a hill.

A hill which brought deliverance by virtue of the crimson blood spilled.

I prayed along and I agreed; afterwards I wept long into the bitter night.

I began stumble in my little faith, I still felt my pain; I was losing the fight.

It was then that His power came forth like a mighty rushing wind.

My words of fear had come to destroy and take from me this again.

Therefore I must believe, therefore I mustn’t give in to this bequest.

I shall fight this fight with words of life and not those of fearing death.

I shall pray on; I shall continue to believe, I will get my healing and all will see.

Proverbs 18:21

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Isaiah 53:5

But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Love and light, Allen. His grace will provide you with the will and strength to get past this and the courage to ask for prayers from friends.

Hey, while I may not pray I do wish for your foot to heal post haste, though you should be off of work during its healing, and that is a good thing, right? As for the poem, as usual it is good to have a strong faith in something or someone...and yours has always been very strong...Find Peace, Ed & Rufuz (you should have soaked that swollen foot in the ocean, the best it is for anything that ails ya)

Allen I pray for your complete healing, but please remember brother that the Lord may have a reason to let you go a season with suffering, so don't forget to ask Him what he might want you to do

at this time. He is always there to go through it with you, healing isn't the only thing God does, He teaches also!

Love and prayers
