Pinholes In The Dark
Walls closing in, last hope scattered on a rising wind.
Sunlight fades into shadows, pinholes of light my only friend.
Comfort once familiar, now becomes a distant dream.
Words strewn on the face of time, nothing is, as nothing seems.
Closer and closer come now the unrelenting walls.
Harm ever near as the heart ushers out a desperate call.
Nothing but the slow grind as 12 x12 creeps to 8 x 8.
Soon there is a 6 x 6 and then… and then the knowing frightful end.
The pinholes of once friendly light evade now collapsing within themselves.
The heart beats faster and the mind shuts down to whence darkness dwells.
No dreams now in this dying world of mine, just the colors of gray to black to red blood wine.
Arms extended, life so quickly extinguished as spirits surround begin to laugh.
Days now gone, hope an ancient thought, derelicts of dreams adrift, this life lived for hope come to naught.
