A World Lost Between Two Moons

Two moons of amber hue rose sequential on the edge of the blackened sea.
I looked at my watch to mark the time; it was almost a quarter after three.
The stars were masked dull points of light; hidden by the smoke of the ritual pyres.
I looked at the red glow in the west, then the moons to the east and lost all desire.

”
Why”? I said should I go on against this bane; this demeaning scrag called life?
There were only a few of us left who hid in the caves by the sea and would come out at night.
It used to be a different world; a world that was once full of life, fresh and green.

Yet now it is a barren almost inhospitable place full of darkness like the world has never seen.

Standing now on a wind swept dune I look out now across the sea at the two moons.

I raise my arms skyward in anguish to challenge the dark tide knowing that I will be gone soon.

I will soon become fuel for the midnight pyres, which steady burn for those born of evil desire.

I will like the forty-four thousand before me mix with the ashes of destiny and become one yet apart from the consuming fire.

A world lost between two moons…the darkness gathers like the priest of black masses…the end is swift and it comes soon.

Truly outstanding. Transports me to that place, and fills me with a loss and a fear beyond speaking. Well done, I am acutely envious.

Allen, this is a magnificient writing, your voice demonstrates to the reader and urgency to continue to the last line. I enjoyed this a lot and loved the images remaining.

There were only a few of us left who hid in the caves by the sea and would come out at night.
It used to be a different world; a world that was once full of life, fresh and green.

It truly did, and this is quite an epic poem.
