Lay Me Down In Dixie
I feel almost nothing now as the cool darkness hastens my sleep.
Cold hands caress me; the blackness dresses and adorns my spirit.
Quietness gathers as a silent slumber glides now in the pitch; shadows grow ever larger from a sarcophagus beneath.
A gold plated crucifix burns hot in the palm of my unmoving hand.
Voices rise from within, accolades unto surrender; silent is the demise.
Oh, men of a lesser heart fail to understand; to which children of certain hope come now to claim the land.
Silence grows so sweet beneath the majestic shade of an old Savannah moss laden tree.
Oh lay me down in Dixie with my love by my side.
Lay me down in sweet Dixie, hush now little baby…don’t you cry
