NO Mom, I Can’t
I stood alone in the utter darkness.
Silence an essence in this fractured dream.
It was there I heard her calling.
“Allen…Allen, oh Allen;” came the voice with a familiar ring.
The darkness now consumed me; like a weight upon my chest.
The voice came once again, but closer than ever before.
Her voice christened my name; a voice long silenced by death.
I turned about and looked; the sight of her stole my breath.
She held out her hand in a gesture for me to give of mine.
I stood affixed, unable to move, powerless in this acute darkness.
Separated thinly by a veil between this my world and eternal time.
“Allen… oh Allen,” came her plea.
“Give of me your hand; come now, oh come be with me.”
Stifling darkness, a voice once adored from long ago.
New fears run amuck; the dry sucking of my soul.
“NO…NO” my inner voice screamed.
Voice again familiar, complete madness conquers my dream.
“Allen”…”NO MOM”…”but Allen, come now with me.”
“I can’t mom; I can’t; for you are of my past.”
“And one mustn’t ever play host to the dead…no, not even in dreams.”
