Seventy Two And Slightly Confused

I woke this morn in such a strange state.

The sun was shining and the air felt great.

I raised the window and took in the fresh air.

Why I asked was this day so fair.

Then it occurred to me

I had slept through winter and it was now spring.

So don my shorts and shed my shirt did I.

It was spring oh wonderful spring and seventy two for a high.

With my leaf net and chlorine secure in hand.

I sprinted out to my pool for faux sun and sand.

Oh how wondrous thought this oh me; this oh I.

I had managed to avoid winter with the simple closing of an eye.

My pool now running and its water pure and sparkling clean.

I thought I would take a quick dip; after all, it was spring.

Then off in the distance I heard my wife’s feet go pitter patter.

I heard her scream loud and clear, “What are you doing, are you mad as the hatter?”

It was too late…oh too late, for in the water I go.

What I didn’t realize was through winter I did not sleep.

For two nights before, this same water did totally freeze.

Now I stand almost purple and blue and all because it was seventy two and I was slightly confused.
