The Man With Windowless Eyes

Windowless is this world; in an empty dark stare.

Walls stark white; smooth to the touch, empty and bare.

An incandescent illumination hums a familiar tune.

Windowless walls; no recollections determine approaching noon.

Rubber feet shuffle and squeak in a hidden passage beyond.

Muffled voices rise and fall; the white silence becomes too bleak.

Sing songs gone wrong, white is the floor beneath his feet.

Bound not by ropes is he, but by chains around his fragile mind.

Windowless walls are all he sees, a white prison hewn out of the shadows of time.

Rubber feet shuffle; soft voices rise.

Then gone again are they, oblivious to the man with windowless eyes.

Allen, this has much heart felt meaning, when a person lives in a world of windowless and white walls and floors, I would suspect life would be bleak & bare; thus, causing the mind to become fragile and unable to seek a future. God Bless.

... .i dont have real words for this; only this loneliness. so many dementias and the worst of which, for me, is the closed self. .the walled in soul. ..the sightless-- -windows to view the world, the beauty of all that is, and the pain of all that was or wants. .

i think. ...

i feel. ..

i may have been this man--

or i know him

dont shut y..our eyes,

amen~

For anyone to have "windowless eyes" is tragic. Many of us have felt this when life seems futile - thankfully, for most of us it is temporary. This is a poignant description of what I perceive Alzheimer's disease to be, or any other mental malady. It is up to us to help them, somehow, at the minimum with prayer.

God bless you. Kathy

Wow Allen, what a title, and the poem continues to stun! You paint a very woeful profile, but sadly it fits in this present society too well. Hope all is well! Superb poetry,as always!

My but this is deep and very sad to me. I can't imagine walls without windows. I love nature so much I would be clostrophobic just because. That , to me, is it's own hell. Where would the shine come but from within.
Love and blessings to you and Leah.

You capture so well the disease of the mind that obliterates all memories and is so sad. One day I pray that they find a cure that can arrest and stop this disease which affects all to many and at any age over 50.
