Poem Artwork

Meadowlarks & Clouds

Long ago recollections swell from a distant past.

Memories of late winter days in fields of straw sure to last.

Meadowlarks and clouds circled with the wind overhead.

Fox and deer drank by the waters of the old river bed.

It is distant but near; a place safe in the Carolina fields of time.

Oh the dreams that once were when I was but the boy of eight or nine.

I still see those fields today with the meadowlarks riding the wind in play.

Oh how far this road has been; ten thousand miles between now and then?

Perhaps I shall find a way…perhaps….another day.
