I Will See You Later

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

It’s odd in how that man is so assuming. Odd in that he believes tomorrow will always be.

I Will See You Later

I ran into an old friend the other day at the deli on the edge of town.

We chatted briefly; caught up on the past and laughed good and sound.

As we parted, I shook his hand and with a smile I said…

“I will see you later”; this morning I found out he was dead.

Assuming was I that a tomorrow would surely come to be.

Presumptuous in thinking that another time he and I would see.

Yet he is gone now; gone, finished and to this earth he is no more.

They said that before he went, he was “talking out of his head”.

I on the other hand think he was seeing what we cannot see.

I think at that moment he was more spirit than flesh and was experiencing the wonderment of heaven and the glory it held it store.

Yep…I am certain…I WILL see you later…until then my friend, until then.

This reminds me of my sister, Helen, who ran into her ex-husband shortly before her dead. They talked and forgave each other for the troubles each had caused. I believe it was preplanned by God; settling old accounts.
Thanks for sharing this ... remembering is cleansing.
Love,
Sandy

...this is reassuring and gentle. ...
like the eye of a storm, it knows the turmoil is only external. ..where the soul sees is the realness. ..inside.

God is the one who is in control and there are only tomorrows if he chooses for there to be. Enjoy, absorb and embrace all the today's for we never really now for sure if there will be a tomorrow. A lovely, heartfelt tribute to your friend....

Be always safe,
Karen

By the mere nature and history of my life, I've always treated each day as a gift. We never know how much time we have on this earth and things can change in an instant.

This is a beautiful tribute to your friend. I've no doubt you will meet again.

All the best,
Jill

Allen,

I'm sorry for your loss - yet, a powerful reminder to not assume tomorrow will come - for some, it won't. Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

...And so be it.
Seems difficult to be ready when He comes.
The old girl Scout Motto : 'Be Prepared'
may apply to, "meditate day and night".
You will see him later!
