Stones For Memories

Alone are they; but not, for they sleep with angels.

Their days are no more under the passing sun.

Their trials remembered not; their race finally run.

Stones for memories catch the stranger’s eye.

Tales, oh so many tales beneath this soil lie.

Fairness eclipsed only by the shortness of breath.

Life now neglects to remember those surrendered to death.

Alone are they…but not.

For they sleep in the arms of angels.

I agree with Rebecca. A real keeper. Alone they are...but not. For they sleep in arms of angels. I will say this. They are not forgotten by some of us.
God Bless,
Lew

A keeper for the day I need the perfect words. My father is a privately proud veteran who earned many honors. We don't plan to send him go off into total obscurity. Thank you for sharing these hauntingly beautiful sentiments. Rebecca

Allen,
They DO sleep in the arms of angels. Your words make the feelings of the bereaved seem less lonely.

Thanks,
Jill

Allen,

As the daughter/sister/niece/cousin of Veterans, and a Veteran, myself, thank you - powerful reminder of the ultimate sacrifice.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

...very classical and stoic feel to this; as if ethced on the stones themselves. .. in the soft dream of death in which the truth resides. .. what souls would say if we would stop and openly listen. .

Very beautiful write dear friend and you are so right, for all too often I see the unvisited graves and wonder at the sadness of humanities love, but when I look at it from the perspective of this write, I can now smile a little about it. Thank you.

A somber revelation to see the cascading sequence of loss in tombstones.
