Shadows

Shadows softly creep.

Such are these stealthy carnivorous things.

Lurking in silence they consume the light.

Unaware, sleeping man surrenders without a fight.

Spindly cords crawl forth in black confusion.

Tentacles pull in the desperate seeking absolution.

Still unaware…man sleeps whilst shadows steal his dreams.

Morning then comes; a fresh start to a new day.

Bird’s sing and bees gather at the vine.

Happy is man in this, his most simple time.

But soon the sun goes down and shadows again softly creep.

I still have a Teddy Bear to sleep with and a night light just in case and Rufuz is always here to protect me from night monsters hiding just beneath my mattress...Ed

Yeah, I always slept with the light on too, shadows are creepy in the house, but outside it's different at night. Interesting thoughts penned here Allen, Thanx, now I will sort out the kids lava lamp 4 the night :)

A well written poem my friend, thought provoking...something about shadows that stirs the thoughts, curiosity, imagination, and sparks our inspiration! Enjoyed...

I like the way that you have written this...it brings an unsettling feeling in the second stanza...and then hope in the third...but your last line puts the reader on edge again. It's strange how the very same things in the day seem so much different in the dark of the night...whether tangable things...are things like thoughts and fears. Well written.

Tentacles remind me of an octopus. Reaching out to surround you. Does the shadows do this much to you. And then they come again at nights. Like this dreamlike poem brought to you in a dreamlike state. Be happy and this is a good write**********
