One Hundred Box Cars
Red skies spar with the glistening steel.
Lonesome tracks lain unto broken trails reveal.
One hundred box cars are filled with old lost men.
Traveling west; searching; chasing hope once again.
The night heaves and falls to the blackness tucked neatly in.
Rails run clackty clack; old men sleep off the day’s early gin.
One hundred box cars slip surreptitiously through the night.
One hundred box cars carrying lost hope to mornings new light.
