Fear Against Faith
I’ve tasted of the bitterness sown from life and her days.
I’ve walked mile upon shattered mile in an opaque haze.
I’ve looked upon the grim and knowing face of sorrow.
I’ve seen the true devastating sadness that befalls mortal man on the morrow.
I look upon fields filled with their beauty and ever present life.
I search my soul and know the overpowering love I have for my wife.
I look into the mirror and I see a stranger from another land.
I see a reflection burnt by many weary days under the sun.
And I see a sad man who has fought the darkness on the run.
To be a sad man is to have traveled a world of bitter travail.
It is to hope above all hope; it is to see peace without set sail.
Hands folded in solemn prayer crush now the bitter reflecting glass.
Surely by faith; surely by grace; surely this sadness will pass.
For fear of sorrow steals of faith;
Fear of the morrow nulls His grace.
So this sad man shall be no more.
For hope never set sail; it stands at the door.
