So Long My Friends

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

I think its time that I stop my writings at least for awhile. I know people are tired of hearing about the hole in my heart. So I am just going to stop…I fail to see the need to go on… how can I explain how I feel to others when I can’t even explain it to myself. You all have been great and I do mean this when I say this…I love you all.

Therefore I will close out this year with this final piece and even in it I cannot explain what it is to die inside. So Take care and God Bless you all…so long my friends…so long

So Long My Friends

I remember the way the sun would hit my face and warm my spirit when Leah smiled at me.

I remember the sweet feeling of her love as she held me close and tenderly.

Yet now I only feel the cold setting sun grazing the small of my back.

Having buried the light of my day I walk forward into the nothingness pitch black.

So tired is the body and mind as I fake my way through each solitary day.

Soon the book “A Glimpse Of An Angel” will be finished and done.

The Chronicles Of Leah and the summer of 2008 with battles lost and won.

Our marker will be in place; and we will soon lie once again side by side.

To the children all I have already given; now I just wait on time.

Though you all have shown such love; my spirit remains broken and quite.

Therefore I think this the best that this should be my final write.

Take care and God Bless…it has been so much fun…

at least it was when my Leah smiled

and brought unto me the warmth of the sun

Allen,
Better than most, I know what you are going through, this year. Grief affects people differently and we all express our grief, differently. Dealing with such a devastating blow takes time. For some, the time is a year; for others, the grief continues for years, if not decades. I wish there was something I could do to assist you, other than to offer my thoughts and prayers. I hope you realize, even if it is difficult to place your feelings on paper right now, that there are many people who care about you and many people who are grieving, right along with you, appreciative of the loss you've incurred and the beautiful love story that you and Leah shared. Though Leah is now your angel in Heaven, your love story lives, as long as you have the memories and as long as you share it.

I hope and pray you'll find it in your heart and reach a point of peace to where you can again write your beautiful memories of Leah to share with the world. In this day and age, your story needs to be told, as a reminder to the rest of us that true, life-long love DOES exist.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. PLEASE e-mail me and keep in touch.

Jill

J. Allen,
I am so struck by the fact that you feel the need to stop writing. Your work has become so deeply profound during your period of mourning. You keep Leah's spirit alive with each sonnet, each poem, each verse. My dearest man, you will never live alone, you will always have her spirit deeply within you. Yes she is gone from the physical world, but please know she is within you every day of every week of every month and then every year. It will get easier to cope with life, trust me on this..I have been where you are, but I did not lose a husband, I lost a baby. Sometimes our losses become richness in our lives. You help so many people and most of all you were a remarkable husband to Leah. This is what I shall remember about you.
I send you healing white light energy, please know you are loved and cared about..Go in peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"

I sent you a note with a book that might over a touch of comfort.

No one can ever tell another when they should stop grieving. It is different for every person.

Though I may not comment often, your writing touches so many other souls who are also struggling to find meaning in life, while greiving for a soul mate, child, parent, friend. I would think it also helps you in your process of healing until you and Leah will again be together through eternity. Life can be very cruel, but we each must find a way to continue, carrying with us the fond memories and warm love that for so long was shared. Allow Leah's warmth help you to heal and through your writing and family you will one day find purpose. Godspeed to you....

Be always safe,
Karen

Well friend...maybe I'm cruel...but you can cry in your own sorrow only so long!!! Do you honestly think Leah would want you to crawl into a dark hole and not share your beautiful talent with others? NOT! We all know you are suffering...many of us have been exactly where you are now...and some of us will continue to struggle (years after)...but we keep on trying!!!! Grief goes in stages...and you are facing another at this moment in time... so... go away if that is what you need...but don't stay away! Use the time to do things that you love...to refresh the hopes that you and Leah had together...and...sure, this isn't the best time of year to begin with... Thanksgiving and Christmas are the most difficult times to get thru when grieving... but... you are not a weak person. Someone who has held her hand, comforted, walked with her...and carried her the way you did...thru the worst times in her life... cheez...that took strength so... please cry...all you want... but then... shake yourself off and kick ass again!!! That is the guy Leah loved....that one!!!! God be with you friend... lindalaw

I must really cry that you are feeling this way. How canwe do without your wites about yours and Leah's loving days and the days you get through now. You are lonely and have made the decision though. Hoping after a break to renew yourself you can come back on the den and write some more of your wonderful life and you still have life in you. Use it to better yourself and help others. Others need your help here on the den even though you don't think so. Please don't give up so easily. a new year, a new start, but memories and her spiriti stay with you always and always. Crying so hard it doesn't make sense to me except I feel for you and your feelings now.

Time is a gift for productivity. God has given you a special gift and a heart to hold the pain. The only way I know to release mine pain is to write, sometimes when it doesn't make sense to me. Your work is not only healing for you but for so many others. Think about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and the pain will peel away. Each person you help the better you will feel. You and Leah will be together. Let go and let God have His way in your life again...His desire is for you to live for Him. He will give you the strength you need...LET GO, LET GOD!!!

Only you can really know how you feel, J. Allen, but I hope you know that our thoughts and prayers remain with you, my friend, whether you take a break from writing for awhile or not.

Allen!

Who said they were tired of your writings? I certainly am not: they show a broken man who misses the love of his life. A man willing to share his pain, his tears. It takes a real man to cry ... if someone said that, they're wrong. They aren't where you are. You are grieving; something precious has been taken from you. Your writings are helping others who are going through the same thing. They are helping me with my own loss (my Daddy). Please, reconsider. Writing is what you do. Writing, after Christ, is your salvation, and will be for others. Trust me. Trust HIM. Stay in touch, I'm here for you.

(((HUGS))) love and prayer, Karla.

Please don't stop writing; it would not do you any good! You may need to leave for a time to regroup, get your feelings back on track, but nothing will ever erase the pain you are experiencing. You will be missed when you are not here; you have so many who care for you! Know that you are in my heart and in my prayers; if you need anything, send me your e-mail addy, and I will write! I'd love to keep in touch with you!

(((HUGS))), much love, and continued prayers~

As always, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :( >tears! <

My deepest sympathies to you Allen...my heart goes out to you each time I read one of your poems about Leah and what you are now going through. You are a beacon to me...showing each of us what true love really is. Don't be ashamed of your feelings. In the end, writing will heal your heart. And it just may be that your writings help others hearts to heal also...

I have never tired of reading the beautiful and magical love story of you and Leah, I've never tired of seeing the ache of your heart for we are here to listen and to care. I hope you reconsider, my friend. Stay in the den. Allow us to read and go with you in your journey back to life. As Carin' Spirit says you could be the candle someone needs to get through the same heartache. God be with you, my friend. May He guide your steps back to the light.

Blessings and love,
~Linda

Al, my dear friend, and I mean that most sincerely, but you cannot run away from the feelings you are experiencing, nor can you find yourself in that running away...time it takes, as it has not even been but a few months, pain and hurting and memories CANNOT be turned off like a light switch...you have to do what you have to do, but NOT writing out your feelings, either here, or another place, will only hurt you worse...(in my humble opinion, that is)...

In whatever way you go, please remember where I am, even though talking on the phone isn't much good either, I am still here for you...ED
