The Missing Christmas Tree
Strange and peculiar is the absence the Christmas tree.
Gone too are the songs that Leah played on the piano.
Oh silent night oh holy night…and little drummer boy.
The lights are still in the box on the top shelf of my past.
Contained therein are the memories of a life meant to last.
No cookie or cider smells greet me when I return from work.
Nothing, oh nothing but a life’s lesson harshly learned.
Question is to those who still have their love and their tree.
How well do you truly love in this season of goodwill and peace.
Has Christmas to you become just another long day that’s really a chore?
How about the relatives and kids, has that too become to you a bore?
So tell me…how well do you love…do you cherish each second that you have?
Do you look into the eyes of the girl that said I DO all those years ago and feel glad?
Do you feel that same fire that burned in your heart way back then when love did grow?
Will you treasure this Christmas and love all beside a warm hearths gentle glow?
So how well do you love…how well of this will you show?
For someday and I hope not too soon…you too may be missing a tree
On Christmas day that once made your life’s blood flow.
HOW WELL WILL YOU LOVE….

Thank you for this somber reminder to be thanksful for all our loved ones and blessings on Christmas and every day.
My first wife died of cancer. It took over twenty years for me to write a poem and a short story about her (on my website). Jesus is with us every second of every day. Of course, the devil is the master of deception. Prayer cuts the devil off and gives us a lifeline to Jesus and His promises of hope, love and eternal life.
Amen

I have always thought that no one should take one moment for granted with their loved ones. No one should take for granted a walk in the rain, holding hands, the joy of being together. You know firsthand my friend, we aren't promised another breath. We should love as if there is no tomorrow and for many there won't be. Allen, you have such beautiful memories and from what you write of you and Leah's love you took nothing for granted, you treated her as the queen of your life, your home. Your love for her was openly shown and hers for you. If only everyone could seize every moment before they have a missing Christmas tree. Heartfelt write, my friend.
Blessings and Huggs,
~Linda
