Crosses With No Names

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

I spent the better part of Christmas Eve visiting a site that few seldom see. I went to the old cities potters’ field and walked amongst hundreds who had no name.
The sky was a gray pink and it looked as if it might even snow. Who were these souls I thought and how came it that they would find their eternal rest in an unmarked grave. They had to have at one time been somebody’s son or daughter / husband or wife. Just the thought of dying without love made me openly cry.

Arthur Foote put it like this when he said …“If God is, He is everywhere present. He is not an occasional visitor, nor ever more truly present than at this very instant. He is always ready to flow into our heart; indeed, He is there now…it is we who are absent”.

We too should be present and follow His lead to forever LOVE…even those that have no names.

It is better said like this...Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things...Love never ends. I cor. 13: 7-8

Crosses With No Names

Hundreds of stone white crosses dot the landscape of potter’s field.

Their names are known only to God; their lives to never be revealed.

I took flowers down to my Leah this bright and sunny Christmas day.

I thought about the love that we had and openly shared and softly prayed.

Yet yesterday in the cold misty pink; gray, I visited potter’s field and those with no names.

Who were they I wondered and why were their lives in their last moments spent alone.

Why was there no one to claim them; did they have no love or home?

Should we learn from the stone white crosses that carry no name?

For to give to another our love is free; and to but offer a kind word is to gain.

So yesterday I prayed; God bless those who lie here beneath the Carolina red clay.

Also it is my prayer that we all learn to from our heart give love freely away.

So many…oh so many there are who have not the warmth of another heart.

It is like unto those who now reside beneath the stone white crosses that carry no name.

Such a powerful lesson contained in these unmarked crosses: WOW. To have never been loved ... can't imagine. Well done, Allen.

(((HUGS))), love, continued prayers, Karla.

So nice of you to care,
For those who were not around,
When you were there,
I'm sure they appreciated your visit,
While you were out making your rounds...Ed & Rufuz
