Bluebirds In The Morning

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

He came back today and sat of the edge of my deck. His brilliant blue back waxed bright against his tan breast in the morning sun. I didn’t think he would return you see…his mate died this summer…I found her not far from the same birdhouse in my back yard that that had used for several years to raise their young. But he returned and he had another lady friend with him. I hope he will build again in the same box that he has always used…

Bluebirds In the Morning

Soft, brilliant blues glisten on feather backs.

The gray fog disassembles with the rising sun.

Another day has come giving proof that life goes on.

Doubts are sent scurrying with the vanishing gray veil.

Little Bluebird rubs his new mates’ beak as I watch from the shadows I know so well.

Soon the sun pierces the grayness of morn and stares me straight in the eye.

The bluebird and his new mate give me a soft wink and take wings in flight.

I watch and I wonder if the little bluebird remembers last summer and his wife.

I am sure that he does…I suppose that in his little bird’s heart he always will.

Therefore on a mornings rise, lessons are learned through little bird’s eyes.

One can remember and still go on, as one will never forget, for love past, present or future if born of the heart never, ever dies.

Get out, socialize some, finds some friends to talk too and try to get over the grief a little. I went today again to the cemetery to see my Tom. But the grief is lessening somewhat, but he will always be in my heart and soul. Nature helps heal us too, and takin photos is a good hobby too. I know you are trying very hard, and time will tell.

An extremely heartfelt piece, my friend; and I truly hope that bluebird and his new mate continue to provide comfort and song. Love that picture, too.
