Skipping Stones

Skipping Stones

A Pond as unto a mirror steals the blueness from the overhead sky.
Flying  insects break the stillness as their wings hum together keeping time.
A fish jumps in a nearby shallow and three sleepy turtles are fast asleep on a log.
Two unknown figures stand together drinking in the day and watch a leaping frog.

He reaches down and runs his had across the soft sand and pulls up two smooth stones.
Rubbing them between his fingers, he polishes them and hands one to her.
She smiles as if it were a diamond and not just and ordinary stone.
He looks at her with a tenderness that says that this is where in life they belong.

And then with a side arm swing he sends his stone dancing across the placid pond.
She then follows his lead and with a mighty heave sends her stone dancing along.
One skip...two..now three and then slower until they both side by side sink and then they are gone.

yet the ripples remain and grow larger and larger until they overlap each others place.
Much like hearts when they gather by still waters as he looks softly into the tenderness of her face.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful poem. It expresses the beginning of love. As a nature-lover, I lived its natural energy which drew me in and kept me there.
