Daddy I See An Angel

Her tiny hands reached out for his; her soft blue eyes shed no tears.

She smiled a snaggle smile and assured her daddy that there was nothing to fear.

He choked back the tears that had formed large pools in his eyes.

He pled once more for God in Heaven to let his little girl survive.

He bent over the small bed and softly brushed her hair from her face.

He kissed her long and gentle; he asked God again not to take her away.

Then his little girl squeezed the fingers of his large shaking hand.

She said daddy its ok…don’t you cry, cause I see an angel by my side.

She pointed into the edge of the bed and her face shone like a hundred suns.

Her daddy looked but saw nothing; he felt a rush of wind and it was done.

He then fell to his knees and wept uncontrollably until he felt a soft kiss on his face.

He turned to look and there by the door stood his daughter and an angel of grace.

This pulls at the heart strings, the loss of a child must be the hardest loss to bear. I can't begin to imagine, unbearable pain.

A very moving, touching piece. Good to read you again.

Best wishes

Andrea

Allen you write this with much truth. My brother spoke of an angel
who waited for him by the bed, and he even told us to give the "guest" a drink! We could not see him of course, but we knew he was there and the time for goodbyes was near. You poem brought back that experience.
Thanks.

Cynthia
