Poem Artwork

Dreams

The air is hot, and sticky sweet as I sit down in the double swing on the front porch.

I stare out into the moon lit night, and I ponder many things present and before.

The aroma of the Confederate Jasmine walks on invisible legs and silently sedates.

The nocturnal sounds lull me to sleep as I dream gentle of another time and place.

I smell the ocean; I feel the warm sand beneath my feet, and I softly smile.

I am walking, the warm gulf waters swirl around my feet, I keep walking, mile after mile.

Somewhere ahead I hear laughter, I hear music, and Areosmith singing “Dream On”

The tide begins to recede, the music grows louder and I see a neon sign that reads, “Welcome home”.

The morning sun on my face now awakens me, my cat fast asleep in my lap, and I still on the front porch.

I get up to go inside and make coffee, and I see a butterfly spread its wings flying into the rising sun towards that secret shore.

Tender and evocative narrative, Allen, that conjures so many warm feelings on several differing levels. I particularly like the butterfly touch at the end, to bring together the dream and waking experiences. When something is so very deeply felt and visualised (your detail is beautiful) there is only a very thin veil between the two states of consciousness, waking and asleep. Lucid dreaming at its best. xx

This surely brings solace to one's soul, Al; a serenity of peace and happiness. Aha! Another poet "owned" by a cat :o)

This is beautiful- I loved so many small touches-as an Aerosmith fan, I liked the "Dream On" mention, it really put a mood to the poem-i like that this place is heavenly and peaceful, and the walk on the stand reminds me a bit of the footprints poem-the image of the cat works well, too, as cats seem to hold the secret to bliss and restful sleep, lol, mine has perfected the art of sleep-the butterfly of course makes one think of new beginnings and souls on their journey, stopping by to remind us that we will one day begin that journey by their sides on that secret shore- really beautiful....and not because of your nice comment on my poem, either, lolol :)
