The Sea And Me

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

On a whim and a short five hour drive, I headed East to the sea. Got off work Saturday night about 8PM. I knew time was short, but I am free to do as I please. The ocean has always been my home, thus I went. I chased silent dreams, I felt love, and peace. I even called and spoke to Eddie M. today and was happy to hear that he too would from the hospital be set free…LIFE IS GOOD

The Sea And Me

Oh, to smell the ocean and to taste the salt on its gentle breeze.

To feel the warm sand as it dances in silence beneath my feet.

To walk beneath the velvet sky filled with untold points of light.

Is to walk in the joy, and the tender peace of what is the gift…life.

I smile to myself as I wait…its 5am, and there is not a soul around.

Yet, I relish the moment as the gentle waves usher in their soothing sound.

Soon, the night cries, and falls away giving its place to the soft pink of the sunrise.

I raise my hands, and I thank the Lord above, I think how good it is to be alive.

I finish my coffee as the sun burst like a giant red ball on the gentle sea.

I see a young couple holding hands with eyes cast in solemn gaze to the East.

They stand like unmoving silhouettes with hands clasp in the eternity of time.

I think, I breathe, I smell their love, and I think about the sea, and me.

I arise from my place in this moment in time and walk along the edge of the sea.

Time is short; soon I must return home; work tomorrow, but for a minute I’m free.

As I head back northwest, just a short, but sometime a seemingly long drive.

I think about the beauty of all that I have seen, I think…oh God; it is so good to be alive.

This is so very beautiful and so very real, Allen. You take us there with you and share with us your "sudden" joy! True blessings come to us this way... and so often we miss them through our conservative hesitancy. The extra sweetness comes with your acceptance of the unforeseen invitation to partake, and your appreciation of the gift. AND, of course, the ability to connect and exchange happiness and well-being with a dear friend of us all! Yes, hope it's true that Ed will SOON BE HOME... VERY SOON, ACCORDING TO THE PHONE CALL I JUST HAD WITH HIM!! :)) Bless you, Kate xx

Keep doing that and you will feel better

To know you and to know what you've gone through yet you have it within you to write this marvelous poem...it touches me. In admiration, Holly

"...oh God; it is so good to be alive." And that it is, Al, that is is. What beauty you share with us in this verse; what inspiration to face each day ahead of us. I'll have to come back and read again...and again...when in need of tranquility and inspiration!
Blessings and Love - Micke

I, too got away for the day with my family...not the ocean this time, but the lake. There's something so calming and liberating about the water. Seems a lot of us here on The Den share your love of the sea.

Such a beautiful write, Allen, one is with you, through your words - thank you for the instant vacation. And to hear Ed Matlack is going to be sprung from the hospital is the very best news of all! Yes, life (God) IS good. Well done.

(((HUGS))) love and continued prayer, Karla.

The sea and the smell of salt brine on the breeze can rejuvenate and enliven even the most jaded soul.
