Memories Which Linger

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

My late wife’s presence has been weighty this week. Perhaps it is the probate hearing tomorrow in regards to the estate settlement that has dredged up all these hidden feelings. Maybe it is the release of my new book, “Glimpse of an Angel” to which 10% of all sales will go to benefit Hospice, who are in my opinion, angels without wings. One thing that eases this somewhat is advance orders have been good, thus I know, that no matter what…the good people of Hospice will get a nice contribution…Then I think Perhaps it is deeper than this…I don’t know.

I do know that I have met a very sweet Christian lady who has a very good and patient understanding of my emotions and has been very supportive of me in this journey from darkness to light once again…Yet still, Leah lingers in my thoughts…some days are better than others, then some days she is always with me. By God’s grace, and in God’s time, I will find peace again…

Memories Which Linger

I know not the day, nor the hour, yet I see you in a smile.

I hear your voice; I see you in the simple blooms of September flowers.

You are always with me; you now watch over me and to OUR JESUS pray.

Though I am moving on baby; you will in the hidden chambers of my heart stay.

I remember so well our last conversation before you went home to be with the Lord.

I recall how you Leah with eyes so blue looked at me and said, “Allen I love you, but I want you to move forward.

I remember you saying that you want me to be happy and have the good live I deserve.

Yet, oh yet still I know that to do this, I must always abide in the Lord that we both did serve.

So Leah…I will abide by your wish, I will move on; I will see the joy in another day.

Yet also know that though you are gone, and rest now in the arms of Jesus…I will never cease to pray.

You honor Leah with your publication of her story, the story of what true love is. It's still there, in different form: God's been there all the time, through the good times and bad. Especially through the bad. Beautifully penned reminiscence as you look toward the future with hope in your heart - well done, Allen.

(((HUGS))) love and continued prayer, Karla.

Moving on is temporal and positional - not relational! In moving forwards, Allen, you are not leaving Leah behind. But you ARE moving into the stretch of days and months that are still yours to live, love and cherish while you yet remain. Your beautiful and transitional words here remind me of a phrase from the old classic The Sound Of Music, where the kindly and very wise old Mother Superior says to Maria: "Maria, it is not wrong to love; by loving another man it does not mean that your love for God is any less". The love you have and always will have for Leah will remain, deepen even. But it is also not diminished by you finding more reasons to love life while you are still in this beautiful world that speaks of both her and His glory. Keep all your channels open and breathe deeply, taking in the new and releasing the old. You're doing just fine! One day at a time, my friend. So many walk this path with you and are at your side. Bless you, Kate xx

It makes me happy, the good decisions you are making. It is good to think of Leah and it is good to cry. This too shall pass. Maybe not today but perhaps tomorrow. In either cas, love yourself so that you can love others. God bless you and the book will help a lot of people.

Oh My, this is so heart wrenching for me this evening. I am missing my soul mate also. You are a wonderful man. You deserve only the best, and we all know that Leah was that. She definitely wants you to be happy and content. You must continue to heal and remember always her beautiful spirit that lives in all of our hearts. You, my dear friend, are a miracle and yes she was an angel...
Peace, love, and light,
