Flashbacks; Memories and Fear

by J. Allen Wilson — Read all 1,629 poems by J. Allen Wilson

John David (Jan’s son) and I have been in Charleston since early morning although it took us longer to get here than expected due to a 14 car pile-up just ten miles outside Charleston. After arriving on campus we snaked our way through the maze of corridors that filled the massive USC Medical campus and we were greeted, and treated with genuine concern for not only Jan’s well being, but ours as well. First I want to thank all that prayed and are praying.

When her son and I walked into the room with tubes and machines beeping I was glad to see her smile…that meant she knew us even though she was heavily sedated. They said that she had experienced a level two aneurysm and that there was blood on the brain…the MRI tonight will determine if invasive surgery will be needed. I pray not due to the risk…however the incident that took place brought back flashbacks from the past…As I held Jan’s unconscious body in my arms, I recalled holding Leah’s lifeless body the same way not too long ago…please keep praying.

Flashbacks; Memories and Fear

Oh to feel helpless once again, crashing like waves on the broken sand.

To see the pain in dull unmoving eyes brandished recollections of another time.

Even still as these words cross this page, I ask as I did back then…WHY?

Yet still I preach words of love… words to love each other everyday even though we may never understand.

For life is a gift from God; never to be abused or under foot trod.

Thus kiss your wife…husband, or mom and dad.

And thank God for the blessing of another day had.

For now I walk with duel memories, which steal, into my forgotten peace.

Two unmoving bodies held in my arms, separated only by the short distance of time.

Two more images burnt into my soul, two more which will never…ever…ever leave my mind.

One still lives, and one is forever gone, my prayers are for the living, and the living alone.

Thus as I part these lines, and I ponder on the things of today, I to you all want to again say thank you to you all that who as I kneel before God to pray.

God Bless you all…and remember to love everyday.

So sorry you are going through a bad enough time again in your life, bringing the flashbacks and all. I hope and pray all will be well with Jan so that you can lead life happily again.

So glad she recognized you ... my prayers are with Jan, her son, and you ... although I don't think He's listening to mine. :( Keep me in yours. Is that selfish of me? I'm sorry ...

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(
